Ranchi: Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) will bring out a compendium of technologies containing the varieties and farm practices developed and recommended so far by it for use by planners, bureaucrats, scientists and NGOs working in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.
The proposed document will contain detailed information about the crop varieties, farm implements, crop management and protection practices, beneficial animal and bird varieties, animal health management and nutrition practices, fisheries and silviculture techniques perfected by the University.
Research efforts would be intensified for development of climate resilient technologies to meet the challenges posed by changing climate affecting crop production adversely. Similarly, research programme on development of biofortified varieties crops having higher protein content and micronutrients like iron and zinc will be launched to minimize malnutrition in the state.
These decisions were taken at the two-day 41st kharif research council meeting of BAU held under the chairmanship of BAU Vice Chancellor Dr Onkar Nath Singh. The VC also announced constitution of a committee under the chairmanship of Dean Postgraduate Studies for further carrying out, development and refinement in the research works of MSc and PhD students.
Research project will be formulated for effective utilization of emerging communication technologies in agriculture and allied sectors. Study would be conducted for identifying reasons of wide gap in productivity of crops and animals in different regions and districts and remedial measures should be suggested in a policy document to be brought out on this aspect. Research strategy will also be workout for increasing the milk yield potential of indigenous cattle breeds and assessing its nutritional contents. Large scale production of piglets of Jharsuk (T and D) breed will be undertaken for providing to 2nd line breeders. There are over 350 second line breeders in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh in Assam having continued association with BAU.
