Ranchi: Life is a struggle and those who perform better with minimum resources excell in every walk of life, said Governor Ramesh Bais.
Addressing the 42nd Foundation Day Ceremony of Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) on Sunday (June 26), he said Birsa Agricultural University is performing very well on research and HRD front despite acute shortage of teachers which is an example for others.
Bais said when he took over as Jharkhand Governor and convened a meeting of vice chancellors, he was surprised to know the Jharkhand universities were running with hardly 30 percent of the sanctioned strength of teachers and other staff. JPSC has been instructed to expedite recruitment of university teachers.
When I was a student, Bais said, products made in Germany dominated the global market, then time came for products made in Japan and China. However, time will soon come when products made in India will dominate across the globe.
The Governor urged the scientists to devise effective strategies to ensure remunerative marketing of farmers’ produce. He adviced the farmers that if they have compulsion of selling their lands for government development projects, they must invest the compensation money in land elsewhere because investment in land is fastest-growing. Money deposited in bank will not last long.
Dr MP Pandey, Guest of Honour of the event and former Vice Chancellor of BAU and IGKV, Raipur said universities and other institutions of higher learning should be better known for out of the box thinking and the land of energy and motivation. He adviced BAU to devise ways and means for making some farm produce of Jharkhand globally competitive. This way, the dream of one district one product may be realised.
BAU Vice Chancellor Dr Onkar Nath Singh outlined the activities and achievements of the University and urged the Chancellor to use his good offices for speedy sabction of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) and MACP to BAU. He said BAU was marching ahead with continued support of the state government and chancellor’s office.
Five retired persons of BAU, aged between 85 to 95 were felicitated with memento and shawl by the Governor for their exemplary contribution to the institution and farming sector. They were Prof NC Das (93), former Chairman, Dept of Agricultural Statistics, Dr SC Prasad (87), former Professor, Dept of Plant Breeding & Genetics, SN Das (88), former Assistant Comptroller, Damri Ram (92), retired Junior Research Assistant and Pachu Mahto (95), Ploughman.
Amit Kumar Jha bagged first prize in the essay competition organised for non teaching staff on the topic ‘World Environment Day 2022’. Amrendra Kumar Verma and Alok Kumar Jha stood second and third respectively. Consolation prize went to Bharti Kumari. Similarly, Priyanshi Pragya received first prize in the essay competition organised on the topic ‘Feasibility of virtual mode of teaching during COVID 19’ for students. Five farmers were also felicitated for their innovative efforts in farming.
Ten assistant professors recently recruited by JPSC for agriculture and veterinary faculties of BAU were given appointment letters by the Governor.
Dr S K Pal, Dean Faculty of Agriculture welcomed the guests and Dr Jagarnath Oraon, Director Extension Education proposed a vote of thanks. Shashi Singh anchored the programme.
