Ranchi: Following the resignation of incumbent Vice Chancellor Dr Parvinder Kaushal, Dr RS Kureel, Director Extension Education has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Birsa Agricultural University by Raj Bhawan Secretariat on Monday.
This is Dr Kureel’s third term as Vice Chancellor. He had earlier served as the Vice Chancellor of Narendra Dev University of Agriculture & Technology, Ayodhya, UP (2010-13), as founder VC of Dr BR Ambedkar University of Social Sciences (BRAUSS), Indore, MP (2013-17) and as Director of National Food Security Mission, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt of India, New Delhi (2017- Feb, 2019) and was appointed as Director Extension Education of BAU in March, 2019. He also served as a Member of Committee for National Education Policy wherein his contribution was deeply appreciated by the Secretary, HRD, Govt of India. Dr Kureel had suggested wide ranging reforms for transformation of the education landscape of India and make youth ready for meeting the global requirements of a modern knowledge society. The policy taking shape in the Ministry of HRD, GoI will stand for another two decades.
BRAUSS, the only university of social science in the country is mandated for social emancipation, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship development and educational excellence of SCs, STs and OBCs and ensuring their participation in decision making and nation building. During his four-year term, Dr Kureel established Social Science Centres in 22 districts of Madhya Pradesh and 10 scientists in the disciplines of home science, law, sociology, rural development, skill development etc were on each centre. These centres were working for checking atrocities on weaker sections of the society and women and their all round empowerment as well as bringing social harmony in the society.
Dr Kureel is M Sc in Agronomy and Ph D in Horticulture. He holds Master’s degree in Management, Computer Science and Political Science also.
The outgoing VC Dr Parvinder Kaushal has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, Himachal Pradesh for three years.
